Establishing a Public-Private Cooperation Model to Expand Korea’s Global Medical Outreach
The Korea International Medical Association (KIMA), represented by Chairman Young Tae Kim, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on July 7, 2025, with the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), led by President Soon Do Cha, and GS Retail Co., Ltd., represented by CEO Seo Hong Heo. The agreement is aimed at launching a joint initiative to support international patients in need through a medical sharing program.
This tripartite agreement seeks to improve access to medical care for underserved patients abroad, particularly in countries such as Vietnam and Mongolia, while jointly building a sustainable model for global medical social contribution based on the unique strengths of each organization.
Under the MOU, the three institutions have agreed to collaborate on the following areas:
Open calls and referral coordination for international patients requiring humanitarian medical support
Joint operation of support systems including airfare, lodging, and medical expenses
Co-development and utilization of online/offline promotional content
Development and global expansion of an international social contribution model
Chairman Kim stated,
“This agreement marks a significant step beyond enhancing Korea’s global medical competitiveness. It is an opportunity to realize the value of sharing and solidarity in the healthcare field. KIMA, together with our member hospitals, remains committed to delivering meaningful and accessible care to international patients while promoting the ethical values of Korean medicine to the world.”
Moving forward, KIMA plans to expand the program by focusing on patients from countries with limited access to advanced medical services, ensuring real, positive impact in the lives of those in need.
