Korean Telemedicine Technology Spreads the World

There are positive opinions about a telemedicine outside Korea although it is a highly controversial topic between Korean Government and private medical organizations in Korea. Today, we cover a few telemedicine systems which were developed by Korean IT companies and were already practical overseas. 1. Seoul National University Hospital The HealthConnect is a medical service corporation created by combined effort of the SK Telecom and Seoul National University Hospital in Korea. Last July, the HealthConnect made a contract to export one of their electronic medical services, the electronic health record system, to a general hospital affiliated to Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense and Aviation. Through Smart phones and PCs, patients are able to record their own health information like weight, blood pressure, blood sugar level, and exercising. 2. Severance Hospital Severance Hospital made an MOU with The University of Manila, in the Philippines last November to cooperate on IT medical technology. Due to a huge medical service gap between Manila and the other local areas, The Government of The Philippines selected Severance Hospital and set up a project to establish a practical telemedicine system throughout the islands.

 

3. Gachon University Gil Hospital Gachon University Gil Hospital goes into Peru with their rich experience on telemedicine. As it is located in Incheon City where are near lots of islands in the west coast of South Korea, it has already run their own telemedicine system between small and local clinics in the islands like Ganghwado Island, Baengnyeongdo Island, Yeonpyeongdo Island, Deokjeokdo Island. 4. The Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary's Hospital Since the early 2000s, The Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary's Hospital has studied about blood sugar management using the Internet. With their experience and technology, they made an agreement with Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai, China in September 2015 and initiated a Smart Telemedicine Business. This has allowed two organizations to develop a healthcare system for chronic diabetes patients in China and run necessary clinical trials.
