Asan Medical Center Hosts Gastroenterology Symposium with Indonesian Society Asan Medical Center’s Digestive Disease Endoscopy Center announced on August 14 that it had jointly hosted an international symposium with the Indonesian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG).The symposium, held from August 12 to 13, was organized to share advanced endoscopic techniques and clinical expertise with Indonesian medical professionals and to promote international academic exchange. More than 20 Indonesian healthcare professionals visited Asan Medical Center in person, while other participants joined the event online from Indonesia.On the first day, lectures and discussions focused on the latest endoscopic techniques and clinical practices, including peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), interventional endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS), and intestinal ultrasonography. Participants also discussed ways to reduce regional disparities in healthcare across Indonesia and strengthen the capabilities of local medical professionals.On the second day, participants visited Asan Medical Center’s Digestive Disease Endoscopy Center and observed various procedures, including upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and pancreatobiliary endoscopic procedures. The program provided participants with an opportunity to gain firsthand experience of the center’s advanced endoscopic techniques and clinical practices.Since its establishment in 1989, the Digestive Disease Endoscopy Center has performed more than 2.25 million endoscopic procedures. The center has established expertise in advanced procedures, including pancreatobiliary endoscopy, and was designated a Center of Excellence by the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) for the third time in 2025, following previous designations in 2015 and 2021.Since 2018, the center has also operated WISE, an international training program in endoscopic ultrasonography.
