A total of 250 hospitals across 36 countries were recognized in the 2026 ranking.The assessment takes into account a range of sustainability indicators, including environmental sustainability performance data, evaluations by healthcare sustainability experts, environmental certifications, sustainability targets and initiatives, and transparency in sustainability reporting.The 250 selected hospitals are assigned ratings ranging from 3 to 5 Leaves based on their evaluation results. 5 Leaves, the highest rating, is awarded to hospitals that rank within the top 25% of the Top 250 and also within the top 15% in either sustainability performance or the expert sub-score.In Korea, four hospitals — Asan Medical Center, Samsung Medical Center, Severance Hospital, and Korea University Guro Hospital — received the highest 5 Leaves rating. Notably, three of the four are KIMA member institutions, highlighting the international recognition of KIMA members’ commitment to building more sustainable healthcare environments.In addition, Asan Medical Center and Samsung Medical Center were recognized for excellence in Sustainable Infrastructure, further demonstrating their efforts to develop environmentally responsible and sustainable healthcare facilities.Environmental sustainability is becoming an increasingly important aspect of healthcare competitiveness worldwide, alongside medical excellence and patient safety. Asan Medical Center, Samsung Medical Center, and Severance Hospital receive the highest “5 Leaves” rating

Three member institutions of the Korea International Medical Association (KIMA)Asan Medical Center, Samsung Medical Center, and Severance Hospital — have received the highest “5 Leaves” rating in the World’s Greenest Hospitals 2026, jointly presented by U.S. news magazine Newsweek and global data research firm Statista.

The World’s Greenest Hospitals ranking recognizes healthcare institutions worldwide for their environmental sustainability efforts and performance. A total of 250 hospitals across 36 countries were recognized in the 2026 ranking.

The assessment takes into account a range of sustainability indicators, including environmental sustainability performance data, evaluations by healthcare sustainability experts, environmental certifications, sustainability targets and initiatives, and transparency in sustainability reporting.
