Ewha Womans University Medical Center (President Kyung-Ha Yoo) recently carried out its 12th medical volunteer service in Mongolia.
The Ewha Mongolia Medical Volunteer Team included Kang Kyung-Ho (Head of the International Healthcare Center, Department of Surgery, Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital), Lee Hee-Sung (Deputy Head, Department of Surgery, Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital), Yoon Hana (Urology, Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital), Park Jang-Won (Orthopedic Surgery, Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital), Kim Yoon-Hwan (Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital), along with nurses and administrative staff. In total, 14 members from Ewha Medical Center and 16 local Mongolian medical professionals participated.
Ewha’s connection with Mongolia began in 2011, when the volunteer team was invited by then First Lady Bolormaa to provide community-based medical services. Except for the period affected by COVID-19 from 2020 to 2022, Ewha has dispatched medical volunteer teams to Mongolia every year since then. This year, the medical team visited two regions—Bayangol in Ulaanbaatar and Bayan-Ölgii in western Mongolia—where they treated a total of 2,036 patients.
Kang Kyung-Ho, Head of the International Healthcare Center, said, “I feel deeply gratified that we have been able to continue meaningful activities in Mongolia for 15 years. Mongolians call our country ‘Solongos,’ meaning ‘the Land of the Rainbow,’ and regard Korea as a brother nation. Through this overseas medical volunteer mission, we were able to fully experience brotherhood and humanity.” He added, “Ewha Medical Center will continue to uphold its founding spirit of ‘service and sharing,’ promote its advanced medical capabilities to the world, and make greater efforts to attract international patients.”
