Asan Medical Center, Samsung Medical Center, Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital and Severance Hospital were designated as an official institution for genetic panel testing, such as next generation sequencing (NGS) panel. The NGS is a technology that examines multiple genes simultaneously and finds suitable anticancer drugs for the patients. The analysis of NGS allows faster detecting of whole human genetic information than traditional methods, so it reduces the time required for the analysis of the entire human genome, which consists of 3 billion base pairs, from 15 years to 3 days. In addition, it leads to significant cost reduction from $ 3 billion to only $ 1,000.
