Two doctors said “ They have never experienced endoscope surgery and now we think that we are getting an importance and result of perspective of modern medical one step further'. Next is a series of questions and answers Q. What is your level of satisfaction on this training program? A. (Roger) Microsurgery using endoscope is am unusual modern medical treatment in Indonesia. I knew that outcome of treatment is very excellent based on an announced thesis from Wooridul Hospital and other medical institute, but participating in a process of real surgery, I am learning many new things. (Alex) I feel great to experience many various clinic example of minimum invasion failed back surgery in Wooridul Hospital. Especially I am very interested in endoscope operation. This type of operation is being carried out several times, but unfortunately recurrence rate was high. Q. Were there any difficulties living in Korea? A. (Roger) If I have to choose one, language communication is a problem because I cant speak Korean. I speak English with medical team, but it is sate-of-the-art technology, so there are many difficult parts to communicate. Food or culture is not too difficult. There are many Korean restaurants and K-pops in Indonesia, so I eat many Korean food. (Alex) Language communication is the hardest part for sure. We discuss in English, but professional parts are hard to be understood. So I am thinking about learning Korean in great effort.   Q. From this training, did you earn any special know-how? A. (Roger) If I get used to this medical technology, I could be a thought leader like doctor of endoscope surgery in Indonesia. The operation was preceded by local anesthesia, and I was surprised that the patient can walk right after the surgery. Indonesia is usually a large operation rather than using local anesthesia. I also have a little regret.Endoscopy is a new field, so 2 months are not enough to learn. We need to build enough clinical experience, but only observation is not enough. I think at least 6 month or 1 year would be needed to learn skills. (Alex) After seeing all processes of endoscope procedure technique and microscope surgery and having conversations with Korean medical team, I was able to learn detail parts and that will be one of best result I had. I had an experience of microscope procedure, this training helped me to improve a skill and earn a confidence. Q. Any parts that the training program can be improved? A. (Roger) It is an excellent program which is very helpful for doctors from developing countries. I wish this program period extends from 2 month to 6 month~1 year. Also I hope communication between hospitals be more intimated. (Alex) When a range of treatment is specific, only short training period yields considerable result. I hope real practice is being carried out, not just having an observation. Q. Do you have any future plan or ambition? A. (Roger) Due to great support from Korea Ministry of Health and welfare and Korea Health Industry Development Institute and kindness from Wooridul Hospital, I earned very important experience in our life. I want to be a thought leader especially in endoscope surgery area. (Alex) As a neurosurgeon, I want to be a remarkable doctor especially in spine clinical field. I am also thinking about opening my own hospital in the future. +82-43-713-8999, 8998, 8997 kimakorea@khidi.or.kr
