Cardiovascular Hospital, Severance Hospital, Yonsei University Health System recorded 200 cases of Transcatheter aortic valve implantation(TAVI) on July 19. It is the achievement for 7 years since July 2011.
TAVI is a medical intervention without chest incision to replace a cardiac aortic valve that has lost function due to aortic stenosis, with a prosthetic valve. Because it can be applied to elderly patients whose surgery is limited or to patients who are at high risk for complex diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, the number of procedures is increasing at home and abroad.
Severance Aortic Membrane Therapy team focuses on the treatment of patients with high age and severity. The average age of the 180 patients is 81.6 years, which was higher than 75 years of other hospitals. The proportion of patients with multiple diseases with high risk for other diseases is also high. The proportion of patients with stage 3 or more of chronic kidney disease reached 45.6%.
