MizMedi Hospital Opens Robotic Surgery Center Based on Over 100,000 Prior Cases of OB/GYN Surgery KIMA logo  MizMedia Hospital operating under Seongsam Medical Foundation (Chairman of the Board, Noh Seong-il) opened the Robotic Surgery Center on January 17.  Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical system whereby the movements of the surgeon’s hands are transferred to high-precision robotic arms by means of a computer system. It is a state-of-the-art surgical platform designed to facilitate complex surgery by offering a wide range of features such as a magnified high-definition 3D vision system and minimizing incision.   Using a robotic surgery system, tiny lesions and blood vessels are magnified 10-fold, which helps minimize injury to normal tissue and enhance precision. In the case of obstetrics and gynecology, in particular, it is crucial to suture the incision according to the texture of the uterine wall. Since the robot fingertips move like those of the human hand and rotate up to 540 degrees, this presents the advantage of higher-precision suturing compared to laparoscopic surgery. Also, the degree of pain is generally proportional to the size of a wound, and since fewer incisions are made compared to open or laparoscopic surgery, robot-assisted surgery results in less pain and faster patient recovery.  Dr. Jang Yeong-geon, President of MizMedi Hospital said, “MizMedia Hospital began performing laparoscopic surgery in 1991, during the days of its predecessor, Yeongdong Jeil Hospital, and has performed most of the gynecological operations as laparoscopic surgery. Based on more than 100,000 cases of OB/GYN surgery since our opening, we’ve introduced the da Vinci surgical system to perform safer and more precise surgery for our patients.”  MizMedi Hospital became the first OB/GYN hospital in western Seoul to adopt da Vinci Xi, the fourth-generation da Vinci surgical system, and its first robotic surgery for a gynecological patient was successfully completed with Dr. Jang as the surgeon.  Lee Jung-won, Director of MizMedi Robotic Surgery Center, said, “Robotic surgery is based on laparoscopic surgery, and it is a system that makes up for the shortcomings of open and laparoscopic surgery and enables greater precision. Our center will perform robotic surgery for gynecological diseases requiring surgical procedures, such as uterine myoma and adenomyosis, and make patients’ health our top priority.” Meanwhile, MizMedi Hospital is the only hospital specializing in obstetrics and gynecology in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. In line with changes in the birthing environment, it is dedicated to ensuring the health of both the mother and the baby through the Safe Birth Campaign.  As the first general hospital in the area, it has emerged as the health guard of the Gangseo region with a childbirth center, robot surgery center, fertility center, child development center, gastrointestinal endoscopy center, and health screening center. By passing the specialized hospital certification review in 2011 and the medical institution certification review in 2014, it obtained specialized hospital certification (4th Phase) and medical institution certification (3rd phase), thereby gaining objective recognition for ensuring patient safety and providing excellent medical services.  +82-43-713-8999, 8998, 8997 kimakorea@khidi.or.kr
