However, for the first time in history, hospitals in the Asia-Pacific region, including AMC in South Korea and St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital in Australia, have been named this year.Depending on the institution's expertise with cardiac treatments and features, TAVI Training Centers of Excellence are divided into several specializations. AMC has been designated as specializing in “minimalist TAVI,” which is defined by the lack of general anesthesia and the reduction of the patient burden, as well as “CT imaging and screening,” which involves image-based treatments. It is quite difficult to meet the requirements to qualify as a TAVI Training Center of Excellence. The hospital should have adequate expertise with TAVI procedures, patients with severe or diversified conditions, and a high percentage of procedural success with a low frequency of complications within 30 days of the procedure. In addition to TAVI performance, medical practitioners in related domains such as cardiology and thoracic and cardiovascular surgery need to be qualified "proctors” with TAVI training, management, and supervision skills to conduct 1:1 training. The collaboration of all relevant medical specialists is also assessed. Moreover, the hospital should provide facilities for TAVI treatment and training, as well as online and offline training options.AMC Heart Institute was chosen as a TAVI Training Center of Excellence since it fulfills all of the standards. In addition, AMC was the first hospital in South Korea to acquire certification to administer the TAVI Benchmark Program, which is based on the 3M (multidisciplinary, multimodal, but minimalist) TAVI clinical protocol. The 3M TAVI Benchmark Program is a TAVI procedure protocol designed by Vancouver University Hospital, Canada. It takes the patient's general health state into account but focuses on facilitating the patient's speedy recovery and return to everyday life by minimizing their physical strain.Several studies have demonstrated that systematic pre/post-management of TAVI procedures enhances the treatment performance of patients, making the protocol the global standard for TAVI. Edward Lifesciences assesses and certifies the facilities where this protocol may be used.As a result, it is a remarkable accomplishment for AMC Heart Institute to be designated as a TAVI Training Center of Excellence and certified for implementing the TAVI Benchmark Program based on its TAVI procedure experience, pre/post-procedure management capabilities, and adequate training and treatment capacity.Since AMC Heart Institute performed the first TAVI procedure in South Korea in 2010, it has become the first hospital in both South Korea and Asia to undertake 1,000 TAVI procedures by May 2021. According to a recent study, only seven hospitals in the United States are able to conduct 250 cases a year, making this statistic exceptional on a worldwide scale.Even though the average age of the 1,000 patients is 80 and they belong to a high-risk group, TAVI has achieved a success rate of 96 percent thus far and 99 percent over the past five years, according to a comprehensive evaluation of the severe stroke incidence and premature mortality rate in 30 days.In addition, AMC Heart Institute has been a pioneer in TAVI research and training by providing TAVI training programs to local and international medical professionals for years and by hosting symposiums to share its current developments.Since its inception in 2009, the Asan Medical Center Cardiology Training (ACT) program has been held on site 124 times, with 1,437 medical professionals from 37 nations participating.Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program has been held 15 times online. The Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics Asia Pacific (TCTAP) is an international academic conference that was originally hosted by AMC Heart Institute in 1995 and continues to receive sponsorship from the Institute. Over 4,000 cardiology professionals from approximately 50 countries attend TCTAP annually, both online and offline, and are quick to discuss the most recent developments. The TCTAP has been an effective venue for cardiovascular intervention training that represents the Asia-Pacific region.Professor Duk-Woo Park of the Division of Cardiology said, “Designation as a TAVI Training Center of Excellence and accreditation of implementing the AMC protocol signify that AMC's TAVI experience, manpower, and facilities are fully recognized by the relevant experts," and added, "In the future, we will continue to offer not only training programs for medical professionals but also advice and training on the TAVI procedure to fulfill our role as the one and only TAVI training center in Asia."Professor Seung-Jung Park of the Division of Cardiology noted, “AMC has acquired the most experience and expertise in Asia, from launching TAVI for the first time in South Korea to completing the most procedures. With this opportunity, I hope such expertise and knowledge at AMC can be beneficial to patients throughout the world.”  +82-43-713-8999, 8998, 8997 kimakorea@khidi.or.kr

Asan Medical Center (AMC) Heart Institute was recently designated as Asia's sole Teaching Center of Excellence for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), which offers training programs worldwide to medical professionals. This distinction was bestowed upon AMC Heart Institute in recognition of its unparalleled TAVI performance and world-class training capabilities.

Edward Lifesciences, a U.S.-based global maker of cardiac stents, prosthetic valves, and other medical devices, recently announced that AMC has been designated as a TAVI Teaching Center of Excellence in recognition of its TAVI experience, clinical outcomes, and training capability.

Now, AMC is authorized to manage, oversee, and train hospitals and medical experts worldwide on all aspects of the TAVI technique, including diagnostic methods and treatment processes, for their initial TAVI procedures.

All TAVI Teaching Centers of Excellence were American and European hospitals in the past. However, for the first time in history, hospitals in the Asia-Pacific region, including AMC in South Korea and St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital in Australia, have been named this year.

Depending on the institution's expertise with cardiac treatments and features, TAVI Training Centers of Excellence are divided into several specializations.

Moreover, the hospital should provide facilities for TAVI treatment and training, as well as online and offline training options.

AMC Heart Institute was chosen as a TAVI Training Center of Excellence since it fulfills all of the standards.

It takes the patient's general health state into account but focuses on facilitating the patient's speedy recovery and return to everyday life by minimizing their physical strain.

Several studies have demonstrated that systematic pre/post-management of TAVI procedures enhances the treatment performance of patients, making the protocol the global standard for TAVI. Edward Lifesciences assesses and certifies the facilities where this protocol may be used.

As a result, it is a remarkable accomplishment for AMC Heart Institute to be designated as a TAVI Training Center of Excellence and certified for implementing the TAVI Benchmark Program based on its TAVI procedure experience, pre/post-procedure management capabilities, and adequate training and treatment capacity.

Since AMC Heart Institute performed the first TAVI procedure in South Korea in 2010, it has become the first hospital in both South Korea and Asia to undertake 1,000 TAVI procedures by May 2021. According to a recent study, only seven hospitals in the United States are able to conduct 250 cases a year, making this statistic exceptional on a worldwide scale.

Even though the average age of the 1,000 patients is 80 and they belong to a high-risk group, TAVI has achieved a success rate of 96 percent thus far and 99 percent over the past five years, according to a comprehensive evaluation of the severe stroke incidence and premature mortality rate in 30 days.

In addition, AMC Heart Institute has been a pioneer in TAVI research and training by providing TAVI training programs to local and international medical professionals for years and by hosting symposiums to share its current developments.

Since its inception in 2009, the Asan Medical Center Cardiology Training (ACT) program has been held on site 124 times, with 1,437 medical professionals from 37 nations participating.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program has been held 15 times online.

The TCTAP has been an effective venue for cardiovascular intervention training that represents the Asia-Pacific region.

Professor Duk-Woo Park of the Division of Cardiology said, “Designation as a TAVI Training Center of Excellence and accreditation of implementing the AMC protocol signify that AMC's TAVI experience, manpower, and facilities are fully recognized by the relevant experts," and added, "In the future, we will continue to offer not only training programs for medical professionals but also advice and training on the TAVI procedure to fulfill our role as the one and only TAVI training center in Asia."

Professor Seung-Jung Park of the Division of Cardiology noted, “AMC has acquired the most experience and expertise in Asia, from launching TAVI for the first time in South Korea to completing the most procedures. With this opportunity, I hope such expertise and knowledge at AMC can be beneficial to patients throughout the world.”
