Very challenging cancer surgeries have been successful at the Pancreas·Biliary Center, Ewha Womans University Medical Center, so the center’s competitiveness has been recognized.
At the center of this success is the team of Professor Hui Song Lee of Pancreas·Biliary Center, Ewha Womans University Medical Center. This year, three patients with pancreatic or biliary tract cancer received laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy at the Center, and all surgeries were successful.
Pancreaticoduodenectomy is a surgery that is usually performed for pancreatic cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, cancer of the ampulla of Vater, duodenal cancer, etc. The duodenum, including the head of the pancreas, bile duct, and gallbladder, is widely resected, and the resected pancreas and bile duct are reconnected to the small intestines, so the surgery is complex. Precise techniques are highly demanded, so pancreaticoduodenectomy is regarded as one of the most challenging surgeries performed by the Surgery department.
