    General Surgery; at the Forefront of Minimally Invasive Surgeries

    The Department of General Surgery is the center of cancer operations and laparoscopic surgeries, with 15 professors. Both practice and research are actively pursued through the specialized clinics in the areas of stomach, hepatobiliary, colorectal and breast. SNUBH is known for its world-class laparoscopic surgeries, which minimizes complications, scarring and recovery time enabling patients to return to their daily lives within a shorter period.
    All of these complex abdominal surgeries were traditionally considered not feasible with this minimally invasive technology in the hands of most surgeons. With cautiously and systemically planned approach, the surgeons of SNUBH accumulated large experience in these unusually complex and technically demanding surgical procedures.

    Cardiovascular Center

    Every kind of heart disease is treated at the cardiovascular center of SNUBH. It includes comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures by 10 cardiologists, 4 cardiac surgeons.
    - 5,600 diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
    - 865 major heart surgeries, including ischemic heart disease, aorta disease and etc.

    Thoracic Surgery

    Thoracic surgery team of SNUBH has been employing video camera assisted thoracic surgery since the outset of the new hospital in 2003. With superb technical expertise of the SNUBH surgeons, we have been accomplishing excellent clinical outcomes including better long term prognosis of cancer stricken patients.
    - 2,500 diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
    - 1,000 major thoracic surgeries, including major lung and esophageal resections, lung transplantation procedures.
    - Over 70% lung cancer surgeries are performed by Video-assisted thoracotoscopic technique.
    - 90% of early stage (stage 1 lung cancer) are performed by Video-assisted thoracotoscopic technique.

    Orthopedic Surgery

    To provide comprehensive treatment, education and research, in the areas of spine, bones, joints, nerves and muscle related diseases, the Department of Orthopedic surgery is working in collaboration with the Department of Rheumatology and Diagnostic Radiology. Consisting of 14 professors, 12 fellows and 53 trainee along with nurses and other medical staff, the department receives more than 60,000 outpatients and 35,000 inpatients every year. The doctors were active in research as well, posting over 100 academic papers in domestic and international societies. The cerebral palsy team, hip joint disease team, upper limbs and hands disease team, spine disease team and knee disease team each have outstanding performance records in treating patients.

    Spine Center

    At the spine center, medical team from all departments dealing with spine treatment including the orthopedic department, neurosurgery department, rehabilitation medicine department, neurology department, Anesthesiology department, and Diagnostic Radiology department gather together to perform comprehensive diagnoses and treatments involving the spine; thus providing faster and more efficient medical services.

    Gamma Knife Center

    The Gamma Knife therapy is a type of radiosurgery which uses high-intensity cobalt radiation accurately focusing at tumor cells, preserving surrounding normal brain tissue. Over 1,000 case Gamma Knife Radiosurgery.

    Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) opened in 2003 as the first major expansion of Seoul National University Medical School system. With the history over 130 years at the center of Korean health care, the school needed addition of this new modern physical facility to accommodate ever-growing national and international requirement in the area of health care.
    As the first fully digitalized-paperless health care institution in Korea, we succeeded the legacy and the tradition of prestige and obligation of the Seoul National University Medical School. Since its opening, SNUBH has rapidly established herself as the national and international leader by providing top class medical care in virtually every area of medicine and has been the site of breakthrough research and education.
    The Unique Electronic Information System (BESTcare, Bundang hospital Electronic System for Total care) awarded Stage 7 by HIMSS Analytics recently, the highest in the category and the only one outside U.S.A. Implication of modern electronic medical record system and full digitalization of hospital medical care is improved medical care for the patients. It was scientifically proven that digitalization and modernized electronic medical record system improves medical care and clinical outcome of the patients by eliminating medical errors, improving safety and efficiency.
    Recent addition of the new bed tower (Cancer and Neuroscience center in 2013) and the 79,800 m2 Healthcare Innovation Park (Center for biotech research and industries) solidified her leadership in health care of citizens of the world.
