Asan Medical Center’s cerebrovascular team has successfully performed the operation of a 10,000th brain aneurysm operation. Since the AMC started the surgery with 47 cases in 1989, it recorded 5,000 in 2010 and reached 5,000 more cases in 9 years thereafter. In particular, Asan Medical Center has treated more than 500 patients with cerebral aneurysm each year since 2010. In the last 3 years, an average of 790 cases has been treated by the hospital. In addition, an analysis of 5,278 patients who underwent treatment with non-ruptured brain aneurysm for the past 10 years from 2008 to 2017 showed that the mortality rate after the treatment was 0.09% (5 cases), and the probability of a severe after-effect disability was 0.38% (30 cases). In general, the global disability and mortality rate in the treatment of unruptured cerebral aneurysms is about 3 to 4%, so the above levels are significantly lower. For reference, Asan Medical Center conducted 7,275 ‘Aneurysm Clipping’ to open the head during surgery and 2,725 cases of ‘Coil Embolization ‘ among the 10,000 cases.
